First Peoples Service

The First Peoples Service (FPS) team is there to offer personalized support to all the Val-d’Or campus students. Over the years, the team has developed an expertise that meets specific needs of Aboriginal students, whether at the academic, personal or cultural levels. FPS offers a personalized welcome, in French and English, as well as pedagogical support adapted to the needs of Aboriginal students, who, in many cases, are returning to school.

The First Peoples Service is also:

  • An Aboriginal Student Committee that organizes activities to get together and discuss the realities of university and city life;
  • A women’s group, to create bonds and break isolation while practicing traditional arts and crafts;
  • An attentive ear and sound advice for students that are experiencing personal, family or other type of difficulties;
  • A team that knows what are the services offered by the City of Val-d’Or and that can orient the students : daycare, lodging, healthcare, etc.
